Utah Clean Air Partnership (UCAIR) is a statewide nonprofit organization created to help improve Utah’s air quality by empowering individuals, businesses and governments to take proactive actions to reduce air pollution. The UCAIR Board is currently conducting a search for an Executive Director.

UCAIR builds on and complements the shared strengths of state and local organizations working to improve air quality. UCAIR was created to foster partnerships and collaboration to leverage the capacities, talents, insights and commitment of these organizations. UCAIR engages with a wide variety of stakeholders, from large and small businesses to municipalities to school districts to individuals, to involve residents across the state in its efforts to improve air quality. UCAIR promotes technical, effective solutions for this complex issue and supports the implementation of those solutions.

UCAIR achieves its mission through:

• Public Education – Educate the public about the air quality problem and equip citizens with simple, straightforward and effective solutions for daily implementation.
• Grants  – Provide resources to those individuals, businesses and organizations seeking to be part of the air quality solution through technology and programs that have measurable emission reductions.
• Partnership  – Provide a table where organizations can come together to coordinate messaging, share data and strengthen efforts statewide to improve air quality.  

UCAIR is guided by a fourteen member Board of Directors. Board members represent state and local government, the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, health, business and industry, economic development, and state nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving air quality.

An important focus of the incoming Executive Director will be implementing the vision and work plan of the Board by strategically expanding and building partnerships with other air quality organizations, building upon and expanding UCAIR’s donor base, effectively fundraising, and communicating a unified and consistent air quality message. The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of UCAIR.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and promote effective teamwork among partners and the Board.
• Lead the organization while establishing priorities and achieving results.
• Represent the organization and communicate effectively in a variety of public and private forums.
• Execute the organization’s operational plan and ensure the most efficient and effective use of resources, ensuring that the operation of the organization meets the expectations of the Board and partners.
  • Oversee and effectively manage the planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of the organization’s programs, projects, and services.
  • Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board
  • Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization and provide the Board with comprehensive, regular reports on the expenditures of the organization.
• Prepare and monitor a comprehensive budget, oversee the development of fundraising plans, write funding proposals, and develop strategic relationships to assist in sustainable funding for the organization.
• Facilitate communication and establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with partners, community groups, donors, government officials, the media, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate would have experience in nonprofit leadership. The Executive Director will manage a small staff at UCAIR and should have solid management skills.  UCAIR engages in messaging campaigns with the assistance of a media and public relations agency, so media relations and the ability to work with the press is important.  Ideal candidates are self-starters, motivators, leaders, excellent fundraisers and relationship builders. They should be creative and organized. Functional understanding of air quality issues and an enthusiasm for the topic is preferred.

Ideal candidates should also possess the following:

• Strong track record of fundraising
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple priorities
• Grants  project management skills
• Ability to develop  and implement strategic plans and programs
• Ability to work with a minimal amount of supervision
• Understanding of media relations
• Contract management skills
• Budget preparation and management skills
• Research, evaluation, and analytic skills
• Excellent computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and website development

A Bachelor’s degree or commensurate years of experience is required and a Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
