SLUG Magazine is back this summer to host its 8th Annual SLUG Cat, an alley cat-style bicycle race. Inspired by the scavenger hunt-style bicycle races made popular by bike messengers in places like New York and San Francisco, SLUG Cat has become a quintessential part of any SLC rider’s summer.
For the 8th year, SLUG Cat riders will have to race through the streets of SLC hitting various checkpoints throughout the downtown area and completing challenges.
We believe that fresh air and outdoor activity are vital to mental and physical health, and are excited to provide some respite for our cycling community while following the proper health measures set forth by the State of Utah. An alleycat bicycle race is a great opportunity to bring us together while easily staying safe and 6 feet apart. SLUG Mag will be implementing strict sanitation procedures, proper PPE for staff and participants and social distancing enforcement. We will post these as we near closer to the event.
During a time of isolation, we’re excited to host a race that connects bicyclists to their city and celebrates the local bike community. The race is open to all riders—no matter the skill level—and promises to be fun for all.
The Details:
-Saturday, June 27
-$5 registration from 4-5 p.m. at Saturday Cycles (cashless options or exact change preferred: paypal, venmo)
-Race begins at 5 p.m.
-Awards ceremony at 7 p.m.
